Innovative approach to rehabilitation
Inmates selected from 20 Haryana jails, primarily serving life sentences, will participate in the open jail programs based on their good behavior. These individuals, numbering 54 in total, will be split between Faridabad and Karnal. The unique feature of the open jail concept permits inmates to live with their families within the jail complex, offering a chance at employment outside the prison within a 10km radius from 10 am to 6 pm. Emphasizing self-discipline, the concept trusts inmates to complete their sentences with minimal supervision and provides support for basic amenities until they secure employment. The residential facility within the jail will be offered free of cost, supporting inmates during their transition to the workforce. Authorities believe this initiative will motivate inmates toward reformation and self-sufficiency, aligning with the state's focus on rehabilitation.
